{"id":93,"date":"2024-10-08T19:22:49","date_gmt":"2024-10-08T19:22:49","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/web-designs-by-niya.uk\/journalpublications\/?p=93"},"modified":"2025-03-06T17:41:43","modified_gmt":"2025-03-06T17:41:43","slug":"what-i-learned-this-week","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/web-designs-by-niya.uk\/journalpublications\/2024\/10\/08\/what-i-learned-this-week\/","title":{"rendered":"What I learned this week&#8230;"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">On the 2<sup>nd<\/sup> of October, during the morning session we covered the history and bases of HTML and in the afternoon sessions we talked about file management, organisation and back up.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">During the first session, we learned about <a href=\"https:\/\/explainers.dev\/web-standards-model\/\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/explainers.dev\/web-standards-model\/\">The Web Standards Model<\/a> and understood that it is important to follow it to ensure that we produce an optimised webpage. Later during this session, we went through the most commonly used tags and learned what void tags are. They are the tags that do not require and opening and closing tag (e.g. <code>&lt;p>content&lt;\/p><\/code>) but consist of onyl one tag that closes itself (e.g. <code>&lt;img src=\"#\" alt=\"#\"><\/code>).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In the afternoon session, we discussed the best approaches to file management, organisation, naming and storing. This was very helpful to me because up until now I had a file management and naming system but realised it is not the best for this kind of work. I realised that the backup of my files also needed improvement so I ordered a hard drive that I will be using for having an offline copy of my files. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The homework we had to do was based on the one from the previous week on finding three objects with good design. This week we had to create a four-page website for them using HTML only. This exercise helped me better understand and remember what we learned in our morning session about HTML. Once I was finished with the task I used the <a href=\"https:\/\/validator.w3.org\/\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/validator.w3.org\/\">W3C Markup Validation Service<\/a> to check for any mistakes in my codes. The only mistake that was found was that in the image tags, I had not included alternative text for reader devices.
