London Web Standards (LWS) November 2024
On Wednesday (20th Nov 2024) I attended the LWS monthly web community meet-up for the first time and I had a great time!
There were three different talks, which I could not fully understand (yet!), but still interesting and will be definitely something to think back to as I learn and progress.
The first talk was delivered by Ellis Taylor, who talked about the shift software engineers are experiencing because of the increased use of AI. The second talk was from Olliver Medhurst about the Proffor JS engine he is developing. I can’t comment on it much, but I believe anything that has to do with optimisation of file sizes and faster page loading and browser experience is a good thing to have access to. The last talk was by Harry Roberts on accurately and efficiently testing site performance and the tools we can use to get the job done properly.
My 3 key takeaways are…
- There is a shift in software engineering coming in the next few years.
- A JavaScript optimisation engine is in the works.
- Performance measurement is much more complicated than I thought!
